The Effect of Iron-Overload on Protein Oxidation, Free Radical Generation and Stability of Ferritin

Song Eun-Sook
Abstract
To simulate senescence, we injected FeCl3 in to Sprague-Dawley rat and prepared ferritin from Liver. The amount of ferritin declined slightly, but the iron content of ferritin rose(25%) in iron injected rat. Free radical generation and protein oxidation of ferritin were increased by 100% and 40%, respectively, by iron-overload. Iron release by ferritin was facilitated in iron-overload rat, suggesting higher oxidative stress induced by iron.
